Requirements for a New York Marriage License
The bride and groom will be asked to fill out an Affidavit and Application for Marriage License, which asks for personal details including name, address, date of birth, social security number, and marital history.
You’ll need a money order in the amount of $35 (payable to “City Clerk of New York”), proof of your identity, and proof of your age if you are, or appear to, be under eighteen years old.
Acceptable forms of identification include:
A valid passport
A driver's license, learner's permit, or non-driver ID
Military ID
U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
U.S. Alien Registration Card
Employment Authorization Card
A blood test is not required. Your New York marriage license is good for 60 days. Although the marriage license is issued immediately, there is a required waiting period of 24 hours from the time the license is issued. This rule was apparently designed to discourage hasty marital decisions.
